When the decision is made that Mom or Dad can no longer live alone, but minimal assistance is needed, an Assisted living facility may be the most appropriate choice. Many assisted living facilities offer more care and allow residents to age in place and remain to end of life. Fees are determined by the amount of care required, in addition to the base rate.
Most people are familiar with assisted living, but may not know about Adult Family Homes, an alternative to nursing homes.
Adult Family Homes are located in residential neighborhoods and are licensed by the State of Washington to care for 2 to 6 residents. They are strictly regulated by the State and carry out yearly inspections to ensure ongoing quality care for our seniors. Most have private rooms, some with private baths. We prefer to place clients in homes where there are 2 caregivers on duty during the day, when the home is full. This is a 1 to 3 ratio of caregivers to residents, something you will not find in any other environment. The family-like atmosphere and attention to residents makes an Adult Family Home an attractive choice for families who do not want Mom or Dad in a nursing home. Many services are available that allow residents to age in place, including hospice. Adult Family Home fees are determined by the level of care required and other factors.
